Join a company at the forefront of social impact, driving first-of-its-kind positive change. You’ll be part of a high-performance culture where you'll make a huge impact, rapidly progress your career, and truly enjoy your work.

From top-tier coaching and personal development budgets to competitive salaries, we take care of everyone who works at Beam.

We’ve already seen incredible growth from our Magic Notes product, helping case workers save over 8 hours of admin per week. From social workers and NHS clinicians to mental health practitioners and safeguarding specialists, over 20,000 frontline workers across the UK are now using Magic Notes regularly to deliver faster, more human-centred support.

The opportunity at Beam

Are you a product-obsessed designer who thrives on crafting exceptional experiences from the ground up? This is a rare opportunity to join a high-growth, VC-backed startup and own the design of AI-focused products. We're not just adding AI features; we're building products with powerful, generative AI at their very core to fundamentally transform frontline work.

As a Senior Product Designer, you will be at the heart of our mission, shaping how we improve our current products and build entirely new ones on a 0-1 basis. You’ll be responsible for the end-to-end design process, from initial discovery and user research to creating beautiful, intuitive interfaces that delight caseworkers and public sector professionals who deserve world-class tools.

You will partner closely with product, engineering, and user research, acting as a strategic voice in the evolution of our product suite. This role is for a designer who isn't afraid to get hands-on, thinks in systems, and is excited by the challenge of bringing cutting-edge AI and design to a sector ripe for transformation.

You’ll be

  • Owning end-to-end design: Leading the design process for new features and products, from initial concepts and user flows to high-fidelity, polished UIs that make our users' lives easier.

  • Building from scratch (0-1): Taking the lead on designing entirely new products, tackling ambiguity with creativity and structured thinking to find elegant solutions for complex user problems.

  • Shaping user experience strategy: Collaborating with Product and Engineering to define not just what we build, but why, ensuring every design decision is grounded in user needs and business goals.

  • Elevating our design system: Maturing and evolving our design system to enable speed and consistency, implementing tokens, modern tooling, and best practices.

  • Crafting delightful interactions: Going beyond static screens to implement thoughtful animations and micro-interactions that make our software feel intuitive, responsive, and even fun to use.

  • Deeply understanding our users: Partnering with our user researcher to conduct interviews, analyse feedback, and become the go-to expert on our users' workflows, pain points, and needs.

You are

  • An experienced product designer: You have a strong track record of designing and shipping complex B2B SaaS products within a fast-paced, VC-backed startup environment.

  • A systems thinker: You don't just design screens; you design systems. You have demonstrable experience building and scaling design systems that empower teams to build better and faster.

  • Product-minded and data-informed: You're obsessed with user outcomes and use both qualitative and quantitative data to inform your design decisions and measure your impact.

  • A master of your craft: You have expert-level skills in Figma, prototyping, and leveraging modern design tools. You're constantly exploring new plugins, patterns, and processes to improve your workflow.

  • A natural collaborator: You thrive in a cross-functional team, enjoy brainstorming ideas with engineers and product managers and believe the best solutions come from close collaboration.

  • Mission-driven: You are fundamentally motivated by the opportunity to use your design skills to create a tangible, positive impact on society.

Why is this exciting?

  • Real-world impact at scale: See your designs used by thousands of frontline professionals every week, helping them to better support vulnerable people. The 5-star feedback we get is a constant reminder of the importance of our work.

  • Shape the future of AI in public services: You'll be at the forefront of applying cutting-edge AI to solve real-world problems. We're one of the first companies using OpenAI's EU cluster, and you'll be instrumental in defining how these technologies are experienced by users.

  • High autonomy and ownership: You won't be a cog in a machine. You'll have a high degree of autonomy to lead projects, make strategic decisions, and see your vision through from concept to launch.

  • International expansion: Our Magic Notes product is just beginning its international journey. You'll be designing products that have a global reach, starting with our first product impact outside of the UK.

We have a strong preference for London-based designers who can regularly meet the team to problem solve in person.

Application Process:

We try to move quickly and effectively with our process. We will try and give you feedback at every stage should you not make it to the next. We appreciate this is quite time-consuming but will try our best to accommodate any timing needs.

  1. Recruiter Screen

  2. 45 minute chat with CTO (hiring manager) - Review of past project, culture chat, opportunity to ask any questions

  3. Portfolio review and white-boarding with COO, Product Director and a Senior Product designer

  4. Final stage interview with one of Beam's Product Managers and Senior Engineers
