At Beam, you get to do work that matters for the world. We’re solving the world's toughest social problems with an incredible team, tech and AI. And we’re growing fast 🚀

It’s not easy. Nothing worth doing ever is.

Join a company at the forefront of social impact, driving first-of-its-kind positive change. You’ll be part of a high-performance culture where you'll make a huge impact, rapidly progress your career, and truly enjoy your work.

From top-tier coaching and personal development budgets to competitive salaries, we take care of everyone who works at Beam.

We’ve already seen incredible growth from our Magic Notes product, helping case workers save over 8 hours of admin per week. From social workers and NHS clinicians to mental health practitioners and safeguarding specialists, over 20,000 frontline workers across the UK are now using Magic Notes regularly to deliver faster, more human-centred support.

About the role

We’re looking for a Prompt Engineer to be part of the launch team for Beam’s first suite of AI products.

Reporting to the Prompt Engineering Lead, you’ll be at the forefront of supporting underserved frontline workers, like social workers, with the latest technologies.

Today, these frontline workers manually type up their case notes and assessments, meaning they spend the majority of their time on administrative tasks rather than providing amazing human support. In this role, you’ll be working closely with practitioners to deeply understand their needs and translate their insights into AI-powered templates that are intuitive, high-quality and tailored to their workflows. Your goal is to create templates that wow practitioners - saving them time while improving accuracy and compliance.

You’ll be:

  • Engaging with practitioners to understand their needs: You’ll meet with frontline workers (social workers, healthcare professionals, etc) to understand their workflows, priorities and what they need from their Magic Notes summary, translating these insights into AI templates.

  • Creating and testing prompts: developing new prompts and iteratively improving existing ones. You’ll be using feedback from our users, internal reviews and performance metrics and thinking about the content of the output, alongside tone of voice, specialised vocabulary, and drawing out the highest priority information. In other words, you’ll make sure that Magic Notes summaries are as relevant as possible!

  • Collaborating cross-functionally: working closely with product managers, engineers, customer success and end-users to develop new features and ensure templates meet customer needs day-to-day.

  • Ensuring data privacy and security: paying close attention to data privacy and security, threading these considerations throughout your work, with a constant focus on the sensitive area we work in and the vulnerabilities of many users.

  • Documenting and sharing learnings: capturing insights and best practices to improve processes and share knowledge across the team.

  • Innovating continuously: staying updated with the latest advancements in AI and LLMs to continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our templates. Understanding how we take our outputs to the next level through machine learning, training models, and other methods.

You’ll have:

  • Interest in prompt engineering: You’re experimenting with new prompts and AI ideas in your day-to-day life.

  • User-centered approach: A deep understanding of how to engage with end-users, gather actionable feedback, and translate insights into meaningful improvements for templates.

  • Creative and solutions driven: Ability to troubleshoot complex prompts to diagnose issues and bring creative solutions to continuously improve.

  • Problem-solving skills: You can diagnose what’s going wrong in a prompt and bring creative solutions. You have a strong ability to understand complex problems and develop effective, data-driven solutions.

  • A strong growth mindset: You’re always pushing yourself to learn and develop and are excited by the prospect of quickly learning new skills in a rapidly changing environment

  • Attention to detail: ability to create precise and accurate prompts that meet the needs and solve problems for different user groups.

  • Collaborative mindset: demonstrated experience working cross-functionally with product managers, engineers, customer success teams and end-users to deliver high-quality solutions.

  • Passion for social impact: a desire to work in a respectful, transparent, and collaborative environment, excited by Beam’s company values, culture, and mission to support frontline teams.

  • Experience or knowledge of providing care and support to disadvantaged groups, along with an understanding of the associated reporting requirements, is a very valuable plus!
