We're looking for a product designer with a strong desire to build something new. As a seed-stage business, we value pragmatism and progress over perfection.
Salary range: £70k-£80k
Permanent
Location: Clerkenwell (remote-friendly, but we’d love to see you 2 days per week in person)
About Prosper
We are on a mission to revolutionise how we save for the longer term.
We are a fintech start up based in the UK with team members across Europe. We are striving to create an investment and savings platform that puts control and choice back in consumers’ hands.
We believe that legacy solutions for long term investing and saving are expensive, the language in them is often complex, the charges obscure or hidden and the digital experiences dated and clumsy.
Meanwhile, the new solutions tend to focus on the first-time investor and are heavily biased toward trading, as opposed to saving for the long term. We are not here to serve the next generation of savers by getting them hooked on RobinHood.
We have set out to create something different.
Because we believe that everyone, from experienced investors to beginners, can benefit from a platform that makes saving for the future easy, accessible and cost-effective.
We know there’s not much to see in the wild about us… yet! But get in touch, and we can show you what we’re working on.
We're inclusive and are actively looking to encourage people from different backgrounds and with different ways of thinking to apply.
The purpose of the role
Our journey is only at the beginning. You’ll join Prosper as one of the earliest members of the team and build the Product Design function.
Help us launch the initial Prosper product into the market - you’ll have your hands on every aspect: research to UI and everything in-between.
Driving the creative direction of Prosper forward, bringing the brand to life through digital interfaces and user experience.
What you’ll do
Get a deep understanding of our target customer mindsets, attitudes and needs
Take customer problems through discovery, user journey mapping to the execution of final UI design details to arrive at a solution that is considered, intuitive and biased towards simplicity
Work closely and pragmatically with our engineering team to create a culture of good design and the perfect balance of consistency, delight and feasibility
Validate and iterate your design concepts through working directly with our target audience, measuring usability and efficacy
Prototype to bring application concepts alive, explain interaction, movement and functionality
What you’re getting into
You'll be not only working on our customer experience, but how we work too. We’ve got a basic app, but now is where the most challenging work starts.
You’ll love it here if you want to:
Get in at beginning of a new tech company with big ambitions.
Set the process for how we get great things done quickly together.
Huge influence over the customer experience from the moment they first hear about us to becoming a regular customer.
Disrupt an industry of giants and revolutionise how we save for the long term. (There is so much wrong and to be done - trust us.)
Work with seriously smart people - we only hire the best people in their field.
Working here may not be for you if:
You want to work in a large product team with lots of other designers.
Specialising in one aspect of the design process (for example design systems, UX only, branding) is important to you.
You aren’t comfortable with ambiguity, or thinking from first principles.
You don’t enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
You want to spend a long time on one problem before moving onto the next - perfect can be the enemy of good at early stage.
The team
You’ll be working directly with our founders, Nick Perrett, the full-time CEO and to a lesser extent Ricky Knox, the part-time Chairman. Between the two of them, Nick and Ricky have raised over $0.5bn for businesses they have been involved in. They have assembled an incredible set of angel investors in ForMore who between them have co-founded leading financial services businesses, such as Capital One, with a cumulative exit value well north of $1bn. The focus of this team on long term saving is no accident, the market is the largest in the UK bar none when it comes to fintech and has yet to see any meaningful disruption, whether that be the life insurers who handle our workplace savings, the online platforms that offer SIPPs and ISAs or the face to face advice businesses. The market feels stale and yet two of the most profitable businesses bar none on the FTSE are these very stale businesses: Hargreaves Lansdown and St James’s Place. The time feels right for change.
