The Senior Financial Controller is responsible for safeguarding the company’s financial integrity, stability, and operational efficiency. This role leads all accounting, reconciliation, and financial control activities, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial records across high-volume, complex transactions. The position drives robust reconciliation frameworks to identify and resolve discrepancies swiftly, enforces rigorous financial controls, and enhances reporting precision.

In addition, the Senior Financial Controller will champion process improvements, modernise finance systems, and implement best-in-class insurance industry practices to improve transparency, efficiency, and financial risk management. Success in this role requires deep insurance sector expertise, mastery of end-to-end financial operations, and the ability to leverage modern finance tools to deliver reliable, real-time insight to support strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities;

Financial Control & Compliance;

• Develop and enforce strong financial controls to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
• Work closely with the company’s Chartered Accountant to ensure compliance with regulatory and financial reportings in the US, UK and Brussels
• Monitor and reconcile premium trust accounts/client money accounts in accordance with binder agreements and regulatory requirements.
• Facilitate premium bordereaux for settlement payments to carrier partners.
• Oversee tax compliance across jurisdictions, optimising financial structures to ensure tax efficiency and regulatory adherence.
• Improve cash flow, collection and working capital management processes
• Liaise with banks to manage treasury operations, ensuring effective liquidity management

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including financial close processes, reconciliations, and reporting.
• Support the preparation and delivery of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with company guidelines and best accounting practices
• Ensure efficient revenue recognition and cost allocation methodologies aligned with insurance industry standards.
• Develop streamlined billing, accounts payable, and receivable processes to enhance financial efficiency.
• Implement and maintain best-in-class financial systems, tools, and automation to improve accuracy and reduce manual processes.
• Oversee the timely and accurate execution of payroll.

Skills and Qualifications;

• Financial Control & Compliance: Proven track record in building and maintaining robust financial controls.
• Accounting & Regulatory Knowledge: Strong expertise in UK & US GAAP, and insurance-specific financial requirements. Chartered Accountant qualifications required.
• Financial Operations: Hands-on experience in designing and building scalable financial workflows and accounting processes
• Cash Flow & Working Capital Management: Expertise in optimising cash management and liquidity.
• Insurance Industry Expertise: Deep knowledge of financial management within an insurance / MGA or broker business.
• Technology & Automation: Familiarity with modern finance systems, Policy Admin Systems and automation tools. Experience in implementing new systems is a strong plus.
• Proficiency in Excel and Google sheets. Strong interest in leveraging new AI apps and other tools/languages incl. Python, SQL etc.
• Strong Communication: Clearly conveys financial insights to diverse stakeholders, ensuring alignment across teams. Leads by example to foster transparency, collaboration, and a culture of clear financial communication.
