About The Role


This is a business-critical role reporting into the VP, Global Head of Programming and will oversee the US/CA Programming team. You’ll have responsibility for driving the regional programming strategy of our platform in line with key metrics and growth objectives, as well as being a key stakeholder in optimising the overall pipeline of quality content for MUBI US/CA.

You will build and manage the regional programming plan and be responsible for adding third-party content to complement and enhance MUBI’s own internal slate pipeline.

Using your extensive expertise in structuring commercial deals and leading rights negotiations, you will create and implement the regional licensing strategy and lead commercial negotiations for US/CA SVOD to achieve an effective and efficient content pipeline. You’ll be responsible for managing the regional budget to ensure we’re meeting a consistent and high standard of process, and work cross-functionally with various teams, including Marketing, Product, Distribution, and Data Science, to optimize our content offering.

Where you'll have impact:

  • Designing and leading MUBI’s Programming vision in the region in alignment with key metrics and growth objectives.

  • Managing the US/CA content budget, ensuring optimal allocation and strategic use to maximise impact.

  • Sourcing, negotiating, and drafting licensing deals for platform exclusives and library titles.

  • Creating and maintaining relationships with local talent, festivals and rights holders across US/CA, ranging from local distributors, filmmakers and producers but also international sales agents to secure a wide range of rights deals and early window licensing opportunities.Creating yearly and quarterly curation and licensing strategies, driving local inventory to gauge programming possibilities, and activating local licensing initiatives.

  • Screening content for platform suitability to curate exciting titles and collections, aligning with MUBI's editorial line and brand universe while supporting subscriber acquisition and retention.

  • Developing and overseeing data-driven programming strategies, collaborating with the Data Science team, to leverage analytics to shape content investment and audience engagement.

  • Strategically positioning yourself alongside the Marketing and Communications teams to ensure that Programming reaches the widest audience.

What you will bring:

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the film or streaming industry in a curatorial and licensing role, with at least 5 years in acquisitions, programming or sales.

  • Experience in an audience-facing business is a must, particularly in the SVOD landscape.

  • Excellent knowledge of the local licensing landscape, including key deal structures and commercial terms, along with world-class negotiation skills. Strong relationships with local studio and independent distributors, and a good understanding of the arthouse and independent film and TV market.

  • Proven proficiency in streaming and viewing data analytics with the ability to use data to inform editorial decision-making.

  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills, with proven ability to build world-class teams in creative industries.

  • Excellent communication skills with the confidence to be the face of US/CA Programming to both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to own and drive projects autonomously and collaboratively with senior leaders across other teams and departments.

  • Passionate about great cinema. Strong cinema knowledge—domestic and international, past and present—is strongly desired.
