Data Engineer Contractor (3-Month Project) | Prosper
Location: London/Remote (UK preferred)
Duration: 3 months (initial project scope)
Engagement: Contract / Fixed-term
Start date: ASAP
We’re Prosper, a UK-based fintech startup on a mission to maximise the wealth of our customers. We do this through low or no fees, great cash savings rates and access to financial guidance.
We’re building out our data infrastructure to support business reporting, insight generation, and future machine learning use cases—and we’re looking for an experienced Data Engineer Contractor to lead this work.
What you’ll do
This is a hands-on delivery role—you’ll own the full implementation of a lean, scalable data platform. Your mission:
Ingest & Centralise Data
Ensure all operational data (from internal services) is persisted to Amazon S3 in a structured, queryable format.
Ingest data from third-party platforms via APIs or ETL tools on a scheduled basis.
Build Transformations & Views
Create clean, reliable datasets and views from raw data.
Using Athena (or similar) for querying and joining data.
Deploy Business Intelligence Tools
Connect a BI tool to transformed datasets.
Deliver essential dashboards for Finance, Ops, Product, and Marketing teams.
Document & Handover
Document the data architecture, pipeline logic, and key views.
Support a smooth transition for internal maintenance post-delivery.
Our Current/Target Stack
Storage: Amazon S3 (central data lake)
Data Processing: Fargate batch jobs in Node (TypeScript). We’re open to language/tooling (you choose what fits)
Query Layer: Athena (or similar)
BI: QuickSight (or equivalent)
Infrastructure as Code: Terraform/AWS CloudFormation
Versioning/Workflow: Git, Circle CI
What we’re looking for
Experience delivering end-to-end data infrastructure projects—ideally in early-stage startups or regulated environments (e.g. fintech).
Strong grasp of modern data architecture best practices, especially in AWS environments.
Comfortable working independently and pragmatically to a fixed scope and deadline.
Able to choose the right tools for the job—whether off-the-shelf or bespoke.
Bonus if you’ve worked on anonymised data environments or LLM/AI training sets (but not essential).
