Team Overview

The finance team is an agile, skilled and high-impact function currently navigating a period of business scaling. We are focused on transitioning from manual workflows to a more efficient, tech-enabled, and automated environment. As we champion a culture of empowerment, we are looking for a confident Assistant Management Accountant to join us and take ownership of bookkeeping and support the team with month-end and year-end close processes.

This role is a key addition to the team, designed to provide the foundational support necessary to move to our next phase of growth. If you are a proactive professional eager to be part of a dynamic, growing business, this is the team for you.

The Role

You will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of our day-to-day financial operations while supporting the Management Accountant and Finance Manager with month-end and other initiatives.

  • Bookkeeping & Month-End: Manage daily bookkeeping operations, including the end-to-end processing of purchase invoices, sales invoices, and credit notes.
  • Payments & Reconciliations: Support weekly payment runs and perform bank reconciliations across different banking institutions and multiple currencies.
  • Payroll & Benefits: Support the monthly payroll cycle for London and international providers, including the administration of Salary Sacrifice schemes and Study Aid.
  • Tax & Compliance: Assist in the timely preparation of VAT returns and provide supporting documentation for HMRC surveys and other regulatory filings.
  • Year-End & Audit: Collate and organise data for year-end closures and support audit queries, ensuring a smooth and transparent external review process.
  • Month-End: Support the month-end close with balance sheet reconciliations and journals for prepayments and accruals, ensuring the management accounts reflect an accurate view of the business’s financial position.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to the optimisation and automation of finance tasks, identifying opportunities to integrate AI tools into daily workflows.

About You

  • Experience: You have 2–3 years of experience in an accounting role, ideally within an SME, Fintech, or SaaS environment.
  • Technical Skills: You are AAT qualified or part-qualified ACCA/CIMA (or equivalent) with a strong grasp of UK GAAP, bookkeeping procedures, and VAT.
  • Bookkeeping Mastery: You possess a thorough knowledge of bookkeeping procedures, including posting, balancing, debits and credits, and journal entries.
  • Systems: You are proficient in QuickBooks Online and Excel/Google Sheets (including lookups and pivot tables); experience with Salesforce or Spendesk is a plus.
  • Numerical Excellence: You have excellent quantitative and analytical skills, with strong numerical literacy and a commitment to maintaining high levels of data accuracy.
  • We are looking for a highly motivated and intellectually curious individual who thrives in a fast-paced, transforming environment.
  • Mindset: You are an independent thinker who sets demanding standards of personal excellence. You are inquisitive by nature and eager to learn, automate, and improve existing processes.
  • Communication & Collaboration: You are a fluent English speaker and an effective collaborator who can work seamlessly with cross-functional teams or independently with light guidance.
  • Organisation: You possess strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and consistently meet deadlines in a dynamic setting.

What's in it for you?
